SFD Academy- Week Two

I felt a thousand more times nervous for Monday morning of Week 2 than I did for Week 1.

Maybe I was still in disbelief that first week and seeing the training facility and hearing from the Drill Instructors at the Family Orientation suddenly made it all real.

Or maybe it was because that tied up with all the excitement surrounding this new job opportunity we are painfully aware that none of it is guaranteed and for the next 2 years he is one injury or one (big) mistake away from losing it all again.
(And I know we would be OK all over again, but I would really love to never have to go through that again :))

Anyways, I was so desperate for a distraction against my own reeling thoughts that I agreed to go on a run with a girlfriend (not my favorite activity).  We had a great time, but by 10 am the run was over and I was still anxious.  On the drive home, I saw what looked like an old rolled up map from a classroom leaning against a street sign in front of a house.  My kids love maps and I thought if it was really free that I'd get it for them to look at- I didn't even care what it was a map of, so imagine my surprise when I got close enough to read the description taped to the front of it:

"FREE: Map of Sacramento County"
(the region of Sean's new job)

I don't know why anyone in Davis would even have this map,
and I am pretty sure that no one else in Davis would appreciate finding this map or want it more than me.
And on this day?
Wow.
I smiled to myself the whole way home and immediately felt more at peace.
I love it when God does something so personal and so specific that there is no other way to explain it,
and all you can do is just enjoy it and say thank you.
We hung it up in our living room so Daddy could see it when he got home, but I think we all like it so much it is going to stay there for awhile.

In other news from Week 2,
Oliver had his (A-DOR-ABLE!!) Kindergarten Singing Performance...

We had our first lemonade stand of the year...

And we let the kids stay up waaay too late to see the fireworks in the park for Celebrate Davis :)

But I'd say the highlight for the kids was when Daddy brought his equipment home to dry and to get a little practice in :)

Daddy's Timekeeper

And biggest fan :)

And in the Cutest Thing Ever category, Sean found Elliott's walkie-talkie perfectly placed right next to his :)

The boys are definitely excited about this part of Daddy's new job.
Summer has no idea what is going on but she is excited because let's face it, her whole life is exciting :)

I told the boys that we needed to take Extra Good Care of daddy on his days off so on Saturday morning, they brought out their blankets and pillows to make a nest for him on the couch.

And he returned the favor by making sure that the time he had with them was well spent!
Here they are on their way to the big cement slide with the ultimate cardboard box to ride down in :)
I consider myself a fun mom, but I would never in a million years even consider this.
Sean, you are the best and we are all so glad to be your's :)

    1. Thanks, Melissa! Yah, it's amazing how many things we do that just blur into the background. I don't want to be the mom that is ALWAYS taking pictures, but I want them to know what our life was like- the good and the hard! Thanks for following along :)
