Brain Candy

Do you ever let your imagination run free and plan out EXACTLY how you would like to do something someday? For me, it is usually something like how I would organize my kitchen pantry (if I had one) or how I would redecorate my parent's house or my dream garden/backyard or even the names of my future kids. I call it brain candy and I love it. It doesn't have to be on a grand scale but any creative idea that fills up all the little cracks of "blank thought space" in my brain, which- let's be honest- is not much these days and can usually be found sandwiched between thoughts of "why do I waste time making balanced meals for my child when all he really wants is rice" and exclamations of things like "do NOT pee on your brother's head!"
Anyways...the only thing better than brain candy is getting the chance to make it a reality. I have wanted a photo ledge somewhere in my house for months now but there really wasn't a great place for it in our small home, so I tucked it away in my brain-candy-for-the-future file. However, during one of our recent stormy weekends, I did a little rearranging of our living room, and lo and behold, the perfect spot for my dream photo ledges revealed itself! Being the awesome husband that he is, Sean listened to my crazy idea and said he could do it. I got some plans online and, Voila'!, my photo ledges were complete. These were so easy to make- in fact, they were soooo easy that when we were half way done with them, I was convinced that they were going to look dumb because how could anything that easy look so good? Luckily for me, I was wrong and I think that they turned out fabulously!

The only marriage advice that I can remember from my mom was to

marry a man with a tool belt. I think she was on to something! :)

Since someone had to hold the shelf, I took this picture so that Sean could see the work-in-progress and approve the height from the couch. By the way, how lucky am I that my husband STOPPED sorting the clean laundry in order to finish the construction project that he was working on for me?

The just-about final product!
(I have different pictures/frames to put up
but these were the one's that I had from around the house)
I LOVE it and can now only think of all the other places that I want to put a photo ledge.
Mmmmm....Brain Candy!

  6. Those are awesome Mary! Even more than your ledges, I love the concept of brain candy! I once had to take a Myers-briggs test for a job and the result of my profile was that I am the sort of person who always wants to be innovating, thinking "how could this be better?" even if I am not discontent with how it is. Even if many of them will ever come to fruition, those thoughts about how I could change things totally energize and stimulate me and motivate me through the dull and mundane moments! Great image!
