Waiting for Uncle Doh

My brother called to say that he would be coming to town for a visit.  He is a major celebrity in our neck of the woods, so after naps, the boys went straight to the window to wait for his arrival...

Stage 1 of Waiting:  Patiently watching out the window and evaluating each and every car (or bus or tractor) that goes by to determine if it is Uncle Doh's car.
"Is that Uncle Doh's car? Noooooope!  Is thaaaaaaaat Uncle Doh's caaaaaar? Nooooooope!"

Stage 2 of Waiting:  Begin calling out the person's name in a loud, sing-songy sorta way
"Un-cul Doooooo-ooooooohhhhh!!"
Oliver took Stage 2 to a whole new level when he alternated calling Uncle Doh's name with
"I looooove hiiiiim!!"  It was adorable.

Stage 3 of Waiting:  Press your face against the glass.
Perhaps you are just not close enough to the window for your visitor to know that you are waiting for them.

Sweet, patient boy.

Stage 4 of Waiting:  Begin to drum on the window. But don't forget to keep singing the visitor's name!!

Stage 5 of Waiting:  Get an article of clothing that was given to you by the honorable visitor (in this case, a SF Giants hat) and then resume waiting activities while wearing said item.

And, when too much time has past without success, do not get discouraged!  He said he was coming!!

To improve moral, we headed outside for some fresh air and to swing on the swing :)

And Lo and Behold...our Visitor has arrived!!

Totally worth The Wait!!

And while we are on the subject of our beloved Benny, here are a few cute shots of these two peas in a pod from his last trip to Davis.

  1. I think I smiled and bubbled inside at each and every picture. Completely precious.

  2. That is so often Uncle Gabe (Deeb) invited similar excitement at our house. But is awesome how you recorded each stage of waiting. I am sure my kids did similar things when they were younger, but I never thought to record them!

  3. Delightful! I especially love the one of them looking at each other lovingly near the end. So special. Thanks for sharing these!
