The Day That

The day before Oliver's first birthday, we celebrated down at the creek at my parents house and I will never forget the moment my dad came out on the back deck to joyfully proclaim the news that my sister had delivered the baby we had all been expecting.

While we all gathered around a cake with one little candle to sing Happy Birthday to my son, my sister and her husband were a few towns over, gathered around one little bundle singing the same song in their hearts to their newborn son. With so many milestones at once, it was a great day to be a Burtt!!

Before Henry was born, we thought it would be fun for the cousins to have their birthdays on the same day, but since he missed the 27th by a few hours, we just let it go and enjoyed the fact that he was here at all.

But what we didn't put together at the time was that for the rest of their lives, these boys will be the same age for one extra special day a year!!

We don't go out of our way to celebrate it, but each year it comes up and we talk about that very special day. For Oliver, it makes the days leading up to his own birthday feel a little more exciting and I know that it makes him feel good to have played a part of such a happy day that everyone in our whole family remembers.  And, not that they need it, but it gives these cousins one more precious connection that they will get to share over the course of their lifetimes.

I know that in the blink of an eye it will be
"The Day That They Are Twenty"
(and there is a very small part of me that looks forward to that day),
but today, and today only, is the
"The Day That They Are Six"
What a wonderful thing for two little boys to be!!
How I wish we could be together so I could snap a picture of my two favorite Six Year Olds, but as we all know, Six Year Olds go to school and so our birthday festivities will have to wait until the weekend.

But all is not lost. Thanks to Facebook Memories, I logged in this morning to find this picture from
"The Day that they were Three"
It might not be from today,
but it does remind me of all the wonderful things I love about cousins born 364 days apart.

Happy Birthday Henry!!
We hope you love being six!
