Sometimes you get a phone call in the wee morning hours and hear the husband of your dear friend say that Today is the Day and Can you take care of our daughter while we get ready to meet our new baby?
And sometimes, it is breakfast time and you discover that you are out of bread and milk and any kind of fruit and so you take your hungry (grumpy) kids out to get a smoothie for breakfast. You even remember that one of your kids has been asking for a green smoothie lately and so you splurge and get him just the drink you think he wants, only to return to the car and realize, by the look on his face, that you have ruined his entire day because at some point between leaving the car and returning a few minutes later, he has changed his mind about green smoothies.
Thankfully, Molly was very pleased with her smoothie choice :)
And sometimes, the smoothie that your hungry kid drinks in haste continues to hastily flow through his entire body, and you are at a park without a bathroom, and you cannot get the pants down soon enough and so you rummage through your recently cleaned out car and find that the only available covering that will do for your 4T son is your daughter's 2T rainbow leggings.
(and does he care one bit? nope!!!)
And sometimes, you are just pushing a young friend on the swings when you hear your phone ringing in your purse, only to get to it as the caller hangs up. So you call back and your girlfriend, who is supposedly in labor, gets on the phone and the first thing you think of is that her labor must have stopped and they have sent her home to wait until she is really in labor, and she interrupts your thinking to tell you that SHE ALREADY HAD THE BABY!!! (it had only been about an hour!) And sometimes you scream and squeal and jump up and down and announce to the entire crowded playground your young friend that MOMMY HAD THE BABY!!! And it is all very exciting and you get goosebumps and feel honored to have been the one to share the happy news to this brand new big sister.
And sometimes, when you just find out that your mommy had a baby that you have been waiting and waiting for and hearing all about for almost a year, and you don't even know what that really means, but you know deep down in your heart that it is a Very, Very Good Thing, you get so happy that you have to hug a tree...
...and dance and dance and dance...
...and make Silly Sassy faces for the camera because you are just TOO happy to do a normal smile :)
And sometimes, you are a 5 Year Old Boy who has many, many girlfriends (that he adores, by the way) and you are really, really disappointed when you discover that another one of our closest friends has a new baby GIRL. Sometimes, the only thing that you can do is lay at that bottom of the slide and sulk until your mom points out that you will love this little baby girl as soon as you meet her, and that she will need someone just like you to teach her Ninja Moves, and you can't help but to crack a smile.
And sometimes,
your Baby learns to remove all her clothes.
All the time.
Wherever we go :)
And sometimes, you have shopping trip failures, disrespectful children, bean and cheese burrito squished into the carseat straps, spilled milk on the kitchen floor, a to do list gone undone, a birthday party that you completely forget about, and no plans (or care) to make dinner and your husband comes home from work,
gives you a much needed hug
and tells you with a smile that
you can Go...
...and do this.
And sometimes, you are only a few hours old and you can just lay there and breathe and bring unspeakable joy and peace and fill up the hearts of an entire family and circle of friends.
