Halloween 2012

Ever since Oliver received his SF Giants hat from the adored Uncle Doh (Benny), he has gotten really, really into baseball.  So when we began thinking about costumes for Halloween, it was no surprise that Oliver wanted to be a baseball player- I think it was the fact that he got to carry around his glove that really sealed the deal for him on that one.  We had gone to a pumpkin party the weekend before and Sean had drawn some eye black on Oliver's face so when we were getting his costume back on for school, Oliver requested to do his own eye black...and after a second of thinking, I couldn't see why not.  I thought it would make for a cute photo opportunity so I pulled out my camera.  I had handed him the pen to draw the lines under his eyes and before I could even turn my camera on, he had already drawn a huge black line down the side of his face!! I didn't want to tell him that he was doing it wrong and it was really too late to wash it off and start over and so I just cringed on the inside and let it happen.  I have to say it was pretty cute to watch him watch himself in the mirror.  I could tell that he was impressed with his handiwork.

Sean and I got a good laugh when we realized that instead of eye black, he had given himself the perfect Brian Wilson/Sergio Romo beard!!

Fear the Beard!

Because Halloween was on a school day, Ollie got to wear his costume to school and we were invited to stay and watch the kids do a small parade.  It was pretty cute to see all these little people, some confused (mostly the boys) and some giddy with happiness (mostly the girls) at the fact that every one was in costume.

All lined up to go outside!  I was impressed at how attentive Oliver was to the teacher while she gave the children the instructions for the parade.

So cute!

Oh, I just love him!

Even Elliott got to get in on the trick or treat action at Ollie's parade.  He had just received a sticker from Spiderman and was patiently waiting for Superman to look up and admire it.

My friend and fellow class parent and her "Adorable yet Angry Bee" baby.
Apparently, Xavier was not a fan of his costume this year!

After the school parade, Elliott was all dressed up with no where to go, so we took him to Starbucks to meet up with some friends.

In the same way that Oliver has developed a love for baseball, Elliott has been on this puppy kick for a few weeks now.  He pants, begs, sniffs, licks and even plays fetch on our living room floor, so it was obvious that we would just go with it and make him a puppy costume for Halloween.  He was so into it!  Here he is doing his best puppy impersonation under the table at Starbucks.  Lovely.

I have to say that he was quite irresistible in his puppy mode.

Thankfully, I had my camera out in time to catch this adorable moment!!

After school and nap time, we braved the chaos of downtown and joined in the trick or treating in many of the stores and businesses.  The boys were sort of into it, but mostly just seemed uncertain of what was going on and wary of the crowds.  It was fun for a few minutes. :)

And we got to see our friends, the S'More Sisters!! (how brilliant is this costume idea?)

And then Oliver saw Gunrock, the UC Davis Mascot. Who Oliver is terrified of.  And that was it.
Which was sad for Oliver, but honestly- perfectly fine with me.  Thankfully, an ergo ride on Daddy's back is a pretty safe place to be and so we were able to make it back to the car without too much drama.

We returned to our cozy home and the boys rummaged through their loot while I made them take pictures together.  I let them eat one piece of candy each and then we went to the park and did what they really wanted to do:  RUN!!  By the time we were done, I am pretty sure that the boys had forgotten all about Halloween and their candy and so we cancelled our plans for trick or treating through the neighborhood and we all got to bed earlier than usual. I know I probably sound like such a lame mommy, but really, if the boys had a super fun day and got to enjoy dressing up and have a yummy treat or two, why push it?  I'd say it was a pretty wonderful day and I think these two would have to agree!
