This post should have been written a month ago but due to a combination of no time and Oliver's fondness for typing while I am trying to work on the computer has prevented me from getting it done. No words can express the pride I have for this man who has worked tirelessly for years to accomplish his goal to become a firefighter. On August 21st, the day after he completed the 7 week academy, Sean was officially pinned as a San Rafael Firefighter. The ceremony was held in the App Bay of Station 1 in downtown San Rafael and I spent the whole ceremony with a bubble in my throat as we watched the dream of the man of my dreams come true.

Getting sworn in

Each firefighter got to choose who he wanted to be pinned by and so I got to do the honors for Sean. It sort of felt like getting married all over again- I felt nervous and giggly and when it was over I just wanted to hug him and cry for like 5 minutes, but there were other guys after him and I didn't want to make a fool of myself so I held it together :)

Yah, this hug...I coulda stayed there forever.

The fire house and all the families that came to celebrate.

My whole family and most of Sean's came out for the ceremony.

One of the things that Sean is most proud of is that he was able to get a job before Oliver was old enough to know that he didn't have one. I am so moved by the inspiration that Oliver has been to Sean throughout this last year and often think about how the unexpectedness of having a baby when we did was no accident. Thank you God for your provision in our lives and may we never forget that Your plan is best.

  3. I remember pinning JJ! I was so nervous too, which makes doing something involving very fine motor skills even harder! So happy for you guys.
